Located on the isolated west coast of Vancouver Island, Tofino is one of those places that's never going to leave me. There's just something special about it - it may be that it makes me think of Peter Pan's Neverland or that it's a surf town. Despite the icy temperatures during our off-season November visit - the sun was shining and the sunsets were epic. We got in our share of hikes, golden hour photo shoots, and even a short surf lesson. Road tripping and camping in the Canadian Rockies is a must do for any traveler who favors the outdoors. In the summer of 2013, my husband, pup, and I took an epic two week road trip through Jasper, Banff, Yoho, Glacier, and Mt. Revelstoke National Parks in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. We hiked our hearts out and ate delicious gluten free food made over the campfire and on the tailgate of our truck. Joffre Lakes Provincial Park makes for quite the amazing day trip and hike just about an hours drive north of Whistler, British Columbia. Starting at the Lower Lake, you'll trek upwards towards a Middle Lake, and eventually make your way to the Upper Lake with the Matier Glacier looming above. We hiked the trail in mid April and it was thoroughly covered with snow but still well marked and in my opinion, simply stunning. Just twenty minutes north of Whistler, British Columbia, Nairn Falls Provincial Park is a great spot to pull over and witness the power of water. From the parking lot it's just a 3 kilometer round trip hike to the falls - it's so easy I would even call it more of a walk. Take care while exploring this area, it's a spiritual site Lil'wat Nation and a beautiful example of potholes, which are created as the water swirls it's way into eroding the rock.
