I can't believe it's been over a month since I last posted about our garden! Since April, we've finally added, filled, and planted the third bed! We've even been harvesting little bits here and there! So lets get down to specifics on what we've been adding to our garden!
Growing my own food is, at least to me, a natural extenstion of my feelings about making things from scratch. In addition, its a great way to ensure my diet is filled with healthy fresh produce that's all naturally friendly towards all of my food intolerances.
If you're new around here, we recently got the ok from our awesome landlords to transform half of our front yard into an edible garden. This is HUGE for us as renters and something we've always wanted to do. So I've started a brand new (as of this April) post series to chronicle our adventures in growing our edible garden.
I really only began planting from seeds last year, when just for the heck of it I threw a bunch of chard seeds in a pot - and the we had chard from last fall through the whole winter.
This year, I'm experimenting.
I've already planted two varieties of carrots, calendula, parsley, nasturtiums, and kale. With our glorious warm weather we've been having, I've picked up a couple of other seeds to experiment with.
Well, we've been planting!
I was lucky enough to be able to take last Friday off from work which just happened to be a gorgeous spring day here in Seattle. We had crossed our fingers that we would have a day like this to start planting our garden, so we hopped to. I had already purchased some seeds and we went to Swansons to pick up the rest of our starters.
Well, it's time to begin consulting these two books. You see, when we bought them it was with the hope that someday we will own a house and be able to plant our whole yard full of edible plants. In the mean time we've been sticking to container gardening and over the past three years we've been carefully cultivating an edible container garden.
But this year things will be different because our wonderful landlords have agreed to let us convert half of our front yard into an edible garden!
In additional to all the other posts I've been slacking on, updates on the garden is surely one. Apparently I missed a check up to the garden for both June and July!
In only about a month, we've gotten our first harvest from our garden! Some arugula and dill! The arugula will probably be braised and the the dill is currently being dried!
