Creative Log: The Tofino Collection Samples - Eucalypt Tank and Headband
Before we left on our two and half week road trip around the mountain west I crammed in a full weekend of making. Several trips to the fabric store later, I ended up with three finished tank tops and two headbands. These two you see above are my first finished pieces with my Tofino Collection fabric!
The Eucalypt Tank with Golden Moss Dots
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen my love for this pattern by Megan Nielsen. It's forgiving and fits my medium shoulder width so much better than other tank patterns I've tried. At this point, it's become part of my standard work wear under an open front sweater or blazer. I've sewn these tanks using quilting cottons, rayon, cotton jersey knits, and now Spoonflower's Silky Faille. With this version, I slightly raised the neckline and extended the length about three inches. Bottom line, it's a great tank and I'm looking forward to wearing this slightly fancier version to upcoming work functions!
Headband with Golden Stars
Here's my thing with headbands and being what my hair stylist calls "a hair farmer." I've got a ton of hair and I need a thick headband to actually keep it out of my face but at the same time, I can't stand it when they bunch up at the base. I've been meaning to put together my own perfect headband pattern for a while now and sewing up another sample for the Tofino Collection was a good opportunity. I used Spoonflower's Modern Jersey, one of my favorite fabrics ever, and put together a two piece pattern which get's wide on top and slim on the back. I actually made two of these headband samples with Golden Stars, so you may see one end up in the soon to launch shop!

I've included recommended fabrics for each pattern on their individual pages, but seriously, their Modern Jersey fabric is amazing! Great color, soft, and quick drying.
