Camp Here: Robson Shadows Campground in British Columbia
On our first road trip through British Columbia and Alberta, we ambitiously decided to drive the full nine hours from Seattle to just outside of Mt. Robson Provincial Park in one day. It was a long haul, but upon arriving at our first campsite - it was easy to remember why we decided to road trip through the Canadian Rockies (just look at that view!). Privately owned and operated, Robson Shadows Campground is located right on Frasier River and has a full compliment of amenities and activities.
About Mount Robson Provincial Park
Designated as part the Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage Site, it just so happens that Mt. Robson Provincial Park turned 100 years old this year. With Mt. Robson dominating the sky line at 9,843 ft and jewel colored Berg Lake sitting at the base - this provincial park sure gives Canada's national parks a run for their money. While we didn't get a chance to really explore the park itself, just driving through it gave us such a great taste that we'll be heading back this summer. We hope to do a few hikes and gather information for another trip to hopefully backpack in to some of the more remote areas like Mum Basin.
Campsites
In contrast to the other campsites I've shared so far this month, Robson Shadows is a small 25 site campground with dirt sites on the shores of Frasier River. While the sites right on the river offer the most gorgeous views and the dreamy running river sound, they also run a bit cooler than the ones set further back. The sites are not all perfectly flat, so you'll need to do some thinking on where you put down your tent. Surrounded by many trees the sites are fairly private, however they are close together and not too large after you park your car. To get a site on right on the river, make sure you request it upon booking.
Amenities
Just like Parks Canada campgrounds, Robson Shadows offers a great variety of amenities as well as activities. I feel obliged to first point out that right after check-in you'll drive past this perfect meadow where an old pick-up truck has been turned into a BBQ with attached picnic table. Yes, that really is a grill under the hood. It also just so happens that the Mount Robson Whitewater Rafting company launches their trips on the same property - making a trip down Frasier River quite convenient. The hot showers are limited to the check-in building, which is a short 5 minute walk from the campsites right next to the BBQ pick-up.

Tips
A few tips for camping at Robson Shadows Campground;
If you will greatly dislike a cool breeze through your campsite, I'd recommend asking for a site off the river.
If you prefer a site directly on the river, make sure to request it when booking.
Since the showers are a short distance away from the campsites, make sure you have a good carry-all to bring everything you'll need with you.
