Ten Good Reads from January 2014
In case you don't follow me on Instagram, but have noticed some references to our pup - this is Parsley. She's our highly emotional and well dressed two year old Vizsla. She rarely gets top billing here on the blog and she's had a rather rough month, so I thought I'd give her this one.
January has been a bit of an odd month for me. With a general lack of outdoor adventures due to my elbow injury - I've spent a lot of time indoors dreaming, planning, and scheming on my computer. Parsley has spent much of the month by my side or in her pocket - being careful to play much more delicately with me while I recover.
Ten Good Reads
1. Overlandia: Fleeing Work for the Open Road to South America | Adventure Journal
I've read a number similarly fascinating stories, but this one caught my eye since we have almost the exact same vehicle. For some reason that makes such an adventure ever more enticing to me.
2. The State of California's Mountain Snowpack 2014 | The Last Adventurer
As a California resident for most of my life, I've watched first hand as the seasons have all but disappeared. The California I knew as a kid no longer exists and that makes me sad.
3. The Fruit & Vegetables of Mexico | Twenty Something Travel
I LIVE for fruits and vegetables, so I love everything about this post. It's a wonderful tour of market finds in Mexico.
4. Lycian Way - Arrivals, Doubts, and Going Anyway | OttsWorld
I loved following Sherry's walk on Instagram - now I'm looking forward to reading more about the details.
5. How To Avoid Paying Bank Fees While Traveling | Nomadic Matt
This is something I've been super lazy about, despite having a number of terrible experiences with my credit union while traveling. I definitely need to get my act in order.
6. Travel Journal: Iceland | ONA
Beautiful images of snow Icelandic landscapes and some beautiful camera bags that fill my dreams.
7. Sailing From San Blas | This Battered Suitcase
Sailing through tropical waters has long been on my wish list and Brenna's trip looks absolutely magical.
8. UNIFORM | Scottish Cashmere | Tomboy Style
Scotland is on the short list for this year's big trip and these images are honestly the most enticing I've seen. Could be that I'm just getting drawn in by the style or the cashmere - but this looks exactly how I want my trip there to look. Totally curious about where these images were shot...
9. I'm a Traveler. AND a Tourist. | Traveling Philosopher
I'm so tired of this debate, so I just loved Spencer's post about the important thing being the act of traveling and not the how one goes about doing so. Can't we just all go wherever and however we want to and all get along?
10. In the Spirit of Adventure // Peru into Chile | Our Open Road
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I get totally lost in these posts and I mean that it the best way possible. I think Chile might edge higher on my to travel list after another post like this.
