Scenes from California: The Rubicon Trail
You've heard me talk about it here several times now - another Tahoe New Years without any significant snow fall. So in addition to hikes - our other alternative activity of choice was to attempt the Rubicon Trail once more. This was our third attempt and with two pickups and a Jeep we made it further than we ever had before.
It's a bumpy ride and I'd really recommend NOT attempting this unless you're well prepared to dig yourself out and have some good experience with offroading. I've also seen this trail recommended for hiking, however having driven the beginning of it a couple of times now I would recommend looking elsewhere. It's rather discomforting to have large vehicles whizzing by you - sometimes not fully in control.
