Things You Should Do In Seattle, Washington: Visit Chihuly Garden

The Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition in Seattle Center is pretty darn spectacular and totally worth a visit - there's even a discount for those of us that live in King County! There's an inside portion that just looks out of this world and an outdoor portion that makes my imagination just run wild. An unexpected portion of the Exhibition is the Theater - don't miss this!

The Edible Garden Project: Grown From Seed

So way back when, we planted about half of our edible plants from seed with the hope that they would grow - but we also weren't keeping our hopes up for total greatness. Fortunately, our edibles grown from seed are doing quite well - even with the crummy June weather we've been having here in Seattle.

Before I move on to photos of some of our other from seed plants, I don't want to forget to mention that the seedling you see above is Echinacea.

My Experience at BlogHer Food 2012

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to attend my first blogging conference: BlogHer Food 2012. It was a very interesting and almost over stimulating experience - so much information and so many amazing people to meet. I'll admit that I got a bit star struck seeing Tory Avey, Molly Wizenburg, Terry Walters, and Elise Bauer. And a bit teary eyed listening to Diane Cu, Todd Porter, and Kim Sunee.

Under normal circumstances, I could never afford to attend a conference like this - so when I found out that BlogHer Food was headed to Seattle I applied for a "BlogHership". Sort of a take off of an internship, a BlogHership allows you to attend the conference without the fee in exchange for volunteering your time to help out with conference operations. I was very fortunate to be accepted as a "mic wrangler" - which meant I was assigned to run the microphone to participants during several sessions.

Seedy Sandwich Bread

It's that time again! The Gluten Free Ratio Rally is back and this time we're bringing you bread! Karen of Cooking Gluten Free is hosting this month, so please check back on her site for a full list of all the delicious creations! I've also included a list of the other wonderful looking recipes at the end of this post.

To find a ratio that worked for me, I started with measuring the ingredients in my successful sandwich bread recipe. From there I rounded numbers and played with the amount of water, varying from 300 grams to 400 grams. A 1 part gluten free flour mix to 1 part water ratio ended up working out the best for me.

Travel Plans for Summer 2012

A few of my favorite travel bloggers have been posting about their summer plans and it was so fun to read about where they're going that I thought I would join them and post about my upcoming adventures.

This summer, I've got a pretty good line up of out of state trips that will keep me mighty busy. Each month I'm in the air at least 4 times for both personal and work travel. The list below is only includes the "booked" travel - so it doesn't include the camping trips around the Pacific Northwest and Canada that I'm hoping to take. Although, due to the already heavy travel schedule through September - those may get pushed to early Fall instad.

So where am I off to in the Summer of 2012?

Dutch Baby 2.0

My previous dutch baby recipe was posted back when I was still using gums in my baked goods. Thank goodness I stopped using those! I think they didn't quite agree with me and I've found that I really don't need them - instead I use nothing, flaxseed meal, or psyllium whole husks.

Dutch babies are one of those foods that I grew up with - so they're a total comfort food for me. This recipe makes just enough for two very hungry adults or both Saturday and Sunday's breakfasts for one person. On weekends when my husband has been away at Ultimate tournaments, this has been my comforting breakfast of choice.
