Creative Log: 100 Finished Artist Tiles Part Three
Three quarters of the way done am I and artist tiles 51-75 are now available in the shop!
What's different this time around?
Well, I tried to push my comfort zone to use the whole canvas - or 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch card stock tile in this case. So instead of the simpler illustrations of tiles past, I've tried my hand at just slightly more complex illustrations. I mean, I'm still into the super minimalist art thing - but this time around I've worked with varying layers and a greater variety of water-based mediums.
The metallic pigments you see in the photo and pieces above are something I picked up for fun by Gansai Tambi. I also brought in my favorite travel palette from Greenleaf & Blueberry and I know I've said it on Instagram, but it is worth the stress of snagging these small batch, handmade paints when they get released. Both of these new pigments make appearance throughout this set in addition to gouache and watercolor.
What else is new?
With experimentation comes, well, surprises?
My trusty blue tape failed to hold up my vision on a few of these pieces, so those (there are ten total) will come with your choice of either a 5" x 5" or 8" x 8" white mat (both pictured above). Why those two sizes? Because they'll fit in the two most common sizes of square frames.
Speaking of frames and custom mats, I've got a few suggested options for you...
- If you're thinking super minimalist (and economical), I still have a few simple glass frames left in the shop.
- If you're ordering a piece that doesn't come with a custom cut mat, you can order you own easily from American Frame (it's where I ordered mine from). For all tiles minus the flower wreaths which won't fit quite as well in a mat, I recommend setting the opening to 3" x 3".
- If you're looking for a great frame, I've found a good selection of square ones on Amazon.
