Located on the isolated west coast of Vancouver Island, Tofino is one of those places that's never going to leave me. There's just something special about it - it may be that it makes me think of Neverland or that it's a surf town. Either way, I can safely say I left part of my heart in Tofino and I know I'll be going back as soon as I can.
Read MoreWe'll call this the site that almost got away from us - the one we spent the previous night in the cab of the truck in an overflow parking lot hoping to get. The biggest downside with Kicking Horse Campground is that all the sites are first-come first-serve. So if you're planning to arrive on a weekend during the summer high season, you'll have to cross your fingers and hope for the best! There is a small overflow campground just down the road and the parking lot takes over after that.
Read MoreAfter spending five nights in Jasper National Park's Wapiti Campground, I was ready stay another ten. Maybe even more.
It's the first campground I've stayed at where I could see myself sticking around for an extended stay. It all started with our handpicked campsite, RR22, which sits at the very edge of along the Athabasca River. From this rather perfect campsite to the incredibly clean and updated facilities - Wapiti is where I'll be returning to on my next summer camping trip in the Canadian Rockies.
Read MoreWe almost turned back before finding Joffre Lakes Provincial Park and I couldn't be happier we didn't let our lack of a map or GPS keep us from this beautiful place. At just about an hours drive north of Whistler, through some rather rural country, the hike past the three lakes may be one of my favorite trails yet.
Read MoreJust twenty minutes north of Whistler, British Columbia, Nairn Falls Provincial Park is a great spot to pull over and witness the power of water. From the parking lot it's just a 3 kilometer round trip hike to the falls - it's so easy I would even call it more of a walk. The trail meanders along the banks of the Green River and in some sections the drop off is rather steep, so take care with shaky walkers, small children, and dogs.
Read MoreOf the three new-to-me Canadian National Parks we explored on our summer camping road trip through the Rockies - Yoho completely stole my heart. From waking up to the view of glacier at our campsite, to walking around Emerald Lake, to conquering three hikes in just one day - I'm a total fan. There are just loads of great day hikes and spots to explore in this relatively compact park.
Read MoreI'm back from my blogging break and what better way to come back than with a bang! Specifically the bang of a brand new, albeit overdue, trip video. Making this video was my favorite editing experience to date - with so much footage to work with, I got to really whittle the clips down to the cream of the crop.
Read MoreAt 1,310 square kilometers, Yoho National Park is the smallest of the four connected national parks in the Canadian Rockies (the three others being Banff, Jasper, and Kootenay). One of the advantages to it's relatively smaller size is the close proximity between trailheads.
Read MoreYet another of the many rainbows we spotted during our time in Jasper National Park, at the most gorgeous section, at least in my opinion, of Athabasca Falls. Located at the southern end of a northern spur off Highway 93 (make sense? it's the Highway 93A spur just south of the Jasper township), the falls are crawling with tour buses and visitors. That being said, it's a beautiful spot and very much worth a stop - especially if you're interested in practicing some of your flowing water photography skills.
Read MoreEven after being chased off by strong winds and an incoming storm, Wilcox Pass is currently holding the title of my favorite day hike in the Canadian Rockies. Beginning just north of the Banff National Park border, this eight kilometer trail wanders through the forest and quickly emerges above the tree line to some outstanding views of surrounding peaks and glaciers.
