The Edible Garden Project: January 2013 Update

Sometimes gardening isn't all that pretty and that's certainly true of our experimental winter garden. With a dog trodden and mud covered front yard - nothings going to be that pretty.

It's been awhile since the last update, but some of our plants are still going strong. On the other hand, the arugula, bok choi, kohlrabi, and cabbage don't seem to be changing that much week to week. I think this may be our last attempt to grow all of those except the arugula.

On the other hand, all of the plants have held up suprisingy well through the major frosts and cold weather we've been having here in Seattle. Even more impressive, at least in  my mind, is that our cover hasn't blown away yet!

And I'm Off To Alt!

In 20 minutes, my plane leaves for Salt Lake City, Utah where I'll be attending Altitude Design Summit!

To be honest, I'm really not to sure what to expect. So I'm going with five simple goals;

  1. Learn.
  2. Meet awesome people.
  3. Make connections.
  4. Dream even bigger.
  5. Be my best self.

These goals will be written on the first page of my notebook, that way I can constantly remind myself of why I'm here.

Meyer Lemon Curd

It's quite possible that Meyer Lemon Curd is one of my favorite things on the planet.

First of all, it's something made with Meyer Lemons - so thats a win all in itself. Second, it's creamy and tart and delicious when paired with many things. My favorite way to eat it, other than just by with a spoon, is to dip ginger cookies into it.

Since we're just getting to that magic time of year where you'll find Meyer Lemons in stores, I thought it was high time I shared my recipe for Meyer Lemon Curd with you. I'll make oodles of this throughout winter and then stock the back of my fridge with Weck Jars filled with it to get me through the rest of they year.

Gluten Free In Denver, Colorado

denver and/or colorado and/or gluten and/or free and/or restaurant

Alright, I'm finally starting to catch up on telling you about all my gluten free finds from travel in the fall of 2012. First up, we've got Denver. This was my first trip to Colorado and I was so pleased to find plenty of gluten free options available.

(303) 831-6443

For my first dinner in Denver, I headed to City, O City based on a recommendation from Molly of the Particular Kitchen. With oodles of gluten free and vegan options clearly labeled on the menu and a great vibe in the restaurant (I do love a good community table!) - it made for a very welcoming first night in Denver. I ended up with minestrone soup and a salad with avocado and chickpeas - both were delicious. Another little tidbit that totally endeared me to City, O City was their loose-leaf tea served in pint glasses with cardboard sleeves - just a great touch that I very much appreciated.

What's Next?

With all the travel hours I spent on airplanes, subways, and cars in the past two months, I had a lot of time to think about "what's next?" - and well, I've got a whole lot of plans and dreams for 2013.

For one thing, I really want to focus on the goals I set for myself at Camp Mighty. So if anyone is feeling particularly helpful on teaching me how to make a budget or use video editing software, find my (career) passion, take some head shots of me, or anything else on my list - I'd love to hear from you and if there's a way I can help you with your goals let me know!

In the travel realm, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Helena, and Boston are currently on the books. The big trip for the year is likely to be a few weeks of road tripping and camping through British Columbia and Alberta. If we can swing it, I'd also love to go to Kauai. I'll also be attending both Altitude Design Summit and the International Food Blogger Conference this year - big year in blogging type conferences for me!

I'm Back. So Lets Look Back

So I took a bit of a break.

In mid November I went to Camp Mighty in Palm Springs, CA. Then I immediately jetted off to spend a month living in Brooklyn, NY for work (did you catch my NYC Picture A Day project on Instagram?). When I left there, I came home for 12 hours or so to repacked my bags to spend the rest of December driving from Seattle to Los Angeles, to go to a wedding and see family in the Bay Area for the holidays.

NYC Picture A Day: Week 1

Are you on instagram? Do you follow me? If you don't, I wanted to let you know about a little project I started; NYC Picture A Day. It's just what it sounds like - one picture a day of New York City. I was sent out here for work for at least 30 days and since I knew my schedule wouldn't leave much time for creativity - I decided a photo a day project would help me meet that need to create something. So here's week one;

Brooklyn (you'll see a lot of that, since it's where I'm staying and working)
