Creative Log: On Travel Photography

Calico, California and Red Rocks, Nevada

It's been two decades since my very first foray into the concepts of photography and film with a pinhole camera. Fifteen years since my last formal photography class - when I was developing my own film and prints. The wagon wheel images you see above were also taken in black and white film which I developed and then made prints using a silver bath - you know, about sixteen years ago.

Hand crafted photography is something I dearly miss.

My past with formal photography classes also holds a special place in my heart - as it was early shared time with my now adventure, life, and business partner. Back then, he was just a friend who used to trap me in the revolving dark room door. You know for fun, like teenagers do...

While I initially started looking at photojournalism programs out of high school, it's not the path than I ended up going down. I could endlessly theorize as to why or you could just go watch this video of Chase Jarvis at the World Domination Summit explaining how creativity is the new literacy.

However, I never stopped taking photos, especially on my travels. Neither did Zeke.

Seven years ago, I started a blog for which photography became a greater emphasis with each new iteration. Photography was always a big part of our lives offline, but over time we found ourselves stretching for more interesting shots. Seeking greater capacity for our photography, we upgraded to a DSLR four years ago. Since then, we've been re-honing our photography skills in this new digital age, working primarily with travel photography but also dabbling in portrait and product photography. Two years ago, we started our first small business by founding Dog On A Boat Studios as a way to bundle our creative talents together as we continued to dabble away.

This year, we're taking things to the next level.

We're now officially selling a select number of our images, some one which you've seen here on this website before, on Society 6 as wall art, mugs, notebooks, greeting cards, laptop skins, and at the moment one iPhone case!

Conveniently, Society 6 is also having a sale on wall art today only! From 12:00AM PST to 11:59PM PST, you can get 25% off plus free shipping! Below I've linked up a few of my absolute favorite products and framing combinations but once you click through it's super easy to click around to an image or wall art style you might like more!

As we add more prints to the site from our travels, I'll always let you know here through my Wander Log posts. Or you can keep tabs on the Dog On A Boat Studios Society 6 Shop or brand new Facebook Page!
