Gluten Free in Manhattan, New York

So I already told you about how fantastic the gluten free options in Brooklyn were - but now I want to tell you about Manhattan, where even more amazing gluten free food awaits you. The best part has to be the variety of food and how easy it is to get around via the subway for all these great options. Even after working long days, it was so simple to hop on the subway and grab dinner on the Upper East Side.

Hands down the best vegan food I've ever eaten and the ambiance of the restaurant was also just great - very warm and cozy. The gluten free menu is varied and extensive with plenty of options for all different kinds of eaters. Other things to love include the fresh juice and dreamy desserts.  My visit to Candle 79 including an amazing creamy squash risotto, a Katie Holmes sighting (she was waiting for take out while I was waiting for my table), a wonderful dinner companion that I met at Camp Mighty, and a brownie topped with chocolate sauce and ice cream. Now no offense to Katie or Caitlin - but that brownie was AMAZING.

Gluten Free In Brooklyn, New York

Gluten Free In Brooklyn, New York /

From now on, whenever I visit New York City, I'm staying in Brooklyn and I'll take the subway to visit the other parts of the city. Prior to my thirty day stint in Brooklyn, each time I had visited NYC I stayed in Manhattan - I didn't know what I was missing!

I ate so well during my time in Brooklyn and I don't mean just tasty food, I mean healthy food. Typically, a my diet while traveling isn't exactly healthy or close to what I would be eating at home - not so in Brooklyn. There were plenty of tasty, healthy, gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options all around me which were easily accessible.

Let's not beat around the bush, Bogota Bistro was my favorite find in Brooklyn. I already tend to have a thing for food from Central and South America, but add in a huge menu that's marked with lots of gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options and we have a winner. I tried a number of things on the menu but my favorites were the Arepa de Chocolo with Chunky Avocado Salad and the Cornmeal Empanadas. Even though it's a busy and popular place the staff were all very attentive in making sure my food was safe for me - they even have a separate gluten free fryer, so there are no worries about cross contamination. Another sign of Bogota Bistro's greatness was that all the people I brought there, maybe ten or so in all, loved it.

Gluten Free In Denver, Colorado

denver and/or colorado and/or gluten and/or free and/or restaurant

Alright, I'm finally starting to catch up on telling you about all my gluten free finds from travel in the fall of 2012. First up, we've got Denver. This was my first trip to Colorado and I was so pleased to find plenty of gluten free options available.

For my first dinner in Denver, I headed to City, O City based on a recommendation from Molly of the Particular Kitchen. With oodles of gluten free and vegan options clearly labeled on the menu and a great vibe in the restaurant (I do love a good community table!) - it made for a very welcoming first night in Denver. I ended up with minestrone soup and a salad with avocado and chickpeas - both were delicious. Another little tidbit that totally endeared me to City, O City was their loose-leaf tea served in pint glasses with cardboard sleeves - just a great touch that I very much appreciated.

Gluten Free On Vashon Island, Washington

For our 2nd wedding and 3rd engagement anniversary's we took a day trip to Vashon Island - we didn't think much about where we would eat at the time, but I did recall that I had previously taken note of a few places. Having still been in the process of recovering from a rather indulgent foodie trip to Portland, I was looking for something super healthy. So we decided on Pure Cafe which serves organic vegan and gluten free cuisine.

Gluten Free In Washington, District of Columbia: Favorite Finds

I started out this trip to Washington, DC feeling totally uninspired with my research into my eating options. I had a list I'd developed last year and plenty of places I felt comfortable with eating - but it's just that nothing really sparked my interest.

That was until I actually got to DC and did a little more digging to find some new eats. I ended up with four new gluten free friendly spots - three of which I will most definitely be returning to.

Gluten Free in Seattle, Washington: Southwestern Mexican

Cactus Restaurants

Since moving away from San Diego in 2005, I'm always struggling to find good Mexican food. When I moved away from California in 2010 - it's become even more of a challenge! Just recently I've been frequenting the small chain of Cactus Restaurants in Seattle.  I first visited the original location in Madison Park - such a fun and warm location. It doesn't hurt that you can just walk right outside to the shore of Lake Washington either. Their newest location in South Lake Union is also great and just a short walk from the downtown area.

Gluten Free In San Diego, California

I stuffed myself silly in San Diego. Aside from Portland, Oregon - it's the most gluten free friendly city I've visited thus far.

It was quite fun to visit San Diego and seek out all these amazing restaurants because I actually used to live here back in the early 2000's. This certainly made it way easier to find my way around all the different neighborhoods.

What wasn't easy was deciding between the oodles of gluten free friendly restaurant options! In addition to some of my regular resources I use to research before traveling - there is a wonderful website that has a huge list of gluten free friendly restaurants in the the San Diego area.

Since I was in town for an intensive Photoshop class and staying in the Old Town neighborhood, I stuck to restaurants nearby in Hillcrest, North Park, and Ocean Beach.

Gluten Free In Las Vegas, Nevada: At The Club

The Cosmopolitan Hotel
3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 698-7000

A few weekends ago, I got the opportunity to experience something totally new to me; the Marquee Day Club at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. It's basically like a Las Vegas nightclub, but in a pool with a much more casual dress code. Since our plan was to spend most of the day at the pool - I called ahead to find out if their menu would offer some gluten free friendly food for me. They assured me that there would be plenty of options available to me.
