I really only began planting from seeds last year, when just for the heck of it I threw a bunch of chard seeds in a pot - and the we had chard from last fall through the whole winter.
This year, I'm experimenting.
I've already planted two varieties of carrots, calendula, parsley, nasturtiums, and kale. With our glorious warm weather we've been having, I've picked up a couple of other seeds to experiment with.
In the course of life in this lovely city, I often end up finding some gluten free eats that go unrecognized on the blog. Mostly for reasons of oversight and simply getting caught up in other parts of life. This often happens when we have visitors in town or with the spots we get take out from on busy weekday evenings. So now it's time to give those spots their due chance in the spotlight, as I've had good gluten free dining experiences with them all.
Well, we've been planting!
I was lucky enough to be able to take last Friday off from work which just happened to be a gorgeous spring day here in Seattle. We had crossed our fingers that we would have a day like this to start planting our garden, so we hopped to. I had already purchased some seeds and we went to Swansons to pick up the rest of our starters.
Great article about the history of DIY Culture and the Riot Grrl movement over at Etsy - I heart my BUST DIY Guide to Life.
I'm totally loving the passion series over at Tiny Twig and specifically this recent post about finding your strengths. Mine are Achiever, Input, Intellection, Learner, and Relator.
I'm so excited for this new Whole Foods Market in Lynnwood, Washington. It's very close to where I work for my "day job" and will be so much more convient for weekly grocery shopping than the other locations in Seattle. Plus, this new store is massive and has a gigantic selection of so many neat things!
This was my second trip to Boise and I was feeling pretty good about my eating prospects since I knew of a couple of places from my last trip that were safe and it was only an overnight. How bad could it get? Not that bad at all - even discovered my new two favorite places in the city.
Leanne is continuing to post about her adventures in India - I just love all her photos and descriptions about the trip.
Mary Fran from Franny Cakes is hosting this month's rally for brownies, so check back there for a full listing of all the brownie posts - I've also tried to include a complete list at the bottom of this post.
I'll admit, I really struggled with this month's rally. My initial goal was to create a chewy but not too fudgy dairy free brownie with macadamia nuts, coconut flakes, and orange zest. I tried and tried and ended up throwing out batch after batch. Perhaps my expectations were set too high with all the delicious boxed gluten free brownie mixes out there like King Arthur. So eventually I threw in the towel and went about recreating a family favorite recipe; Chocolate Brownie Pie. I would describe it as somewhere in between a brownie and a chocolate cake, but not at all like a cakey brownie - does that make sense? Anyway, I had much more success with chocolate brownie pie and the dairy free version actually tasted even better!
