A small town on the Cap de Creus peninsula, Cadaques was the relaxed part of our trip through Northern Spain. Due to a throbbing ankle (mine), we even ended up cutting our hiking plans in the Pyrenees short and made tracks for the coast earlier than planned.

Read MoreFrom now on, whenever I visit New York City, I'm staying in Brooklyn and I'll take the subway to visit the other parts of the city. Prior to my thirty day stint in Brooklyn, each time I had visited NYC I stayed in Manhattan - I didn't know what I was missing!
I ate so well during my time in Brooklyn and I don't mean just tasty food, I mean healthy food. Typically, a my diet while traveling isn't exactly healthy or close to what I would be eating at home - not so in Brooklyn. There were plenty of tasty, healthy, gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options all around me which were easily accessible.
Let's not beat around the bush, Bogota Bistro was my favorite find in Brooklyn. I already tend to have a thing for food from Central and South America, but add in a huge menu that's marked with lots of gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options and we have a winner. I tried a number of things on the menu but my favorites were the Arepa de Chocolo with Chunky Avocado Salad and the Cornmeal Empanadas. Even though it's a busy and popular place the staff were all very attentive in making sure my food was safe for me - they even have a separate gluten free fryer, so there are no worries about cross contamination. Another sign of Bogota Bistro's greatness was that all the people I brought there, maybe ten or so in all, loved it.
When someone tells me they're traveling to Spain and looking for recommendations; San Sebastian (Donostia, in Basque) is my first thought for city destinations in the northern part of the country. It's charming, beautiful, and steeped with history.

Read MoreWhile I didn't have much time to explore during my first trip to Salt Lake City and not enough time to do my normal research - I did eat pretty darn well. The only sad part is, I don't have any pictures of the great food or the gluten free friendly places I got to eat at. I know, BAD BLOGGER BAD!!

Thank you so much to those of you that have provided me with feedback through the reader survey! If you haven't taken the reader survey yet, I'd really appreciate it if you did!

Yes, it's true. Fantastic people do attend Alt Summit and sadly, I only met a tiny snippet of them. Going in, like I mentioned in my experience post, I was concerned I wouldn't connect with anyone as I'm not really a designer. As a whole, I found the Alt community to be extremely welcoming and accepting. I was able to connect with pretty much everyone I talked to either about being gluten free or having a serious love of travel. So if you work in a particular little niche of the blogging world like me, don't let that stop you from going to Alt.
So let me tell you about some of these fantastic people...
To be totally honest, I didn't really get excited about attending Alt Summit until a few days before I left and even then, I really didn't know what to expect. As a food and travel blogger without any official design credientials, I wasn't totally sure if I would connect with the other attendees, speakers, or the sponsors for that matter.
All that being said, Alt was everything I never knew I needed in a creative and career sense. I can't say enough about how valuable the experience was for me as a blogger, as a writer, and as a creative person. When I attended Camp Mighty last year, I found my people and after Alt Summit, I've found the working community I'm supposed to be a part of.
So here's my Alt story...
Before we get into today's post, I want to ask a little favor of you!
Could you please take a moment to complete this short reader survey for me? I would be forever grateful for your feedback on how I'm doing around here! Thank you!

I've been getting really into juicing this year and so this post from 101 Cookbooks was quite timely.
We live in an amazing world.
Last year I got to visit my family's "torre" (tower) in Basque Country, so I really enjoyed this post from Kate about visiting the land of her ancestors in Scotland.
