Photo Essay: Gettysburg National Military Park

Just a quarter of my family lived in the United States at the time of the Civil War, so I don't have a whole lot of ties to that particular era of American history. That being said, the Gettysburg National Military Park is a pretty fascinating place to visit. It's certainly a very somber spot given the thousands of casualties which occurred during the battle, but the 1,328 monuments built to honor those also make it a beautiful place to wander through.

Photo & Video Essay: Nairn Falls Provincial Park

Just twenty minutes north of Whistler, British Columbia, Nairn Falls Provincial Park is a great spot to pull over and witness the power of water. From the parking lot it's just a 3 kilometer round trip hike to the falls - it's so easy I would even call it more of a walk. The trail meanders along the banks of the Green River and in some sections the drop off is rather steep, so take care with shaky walkers, small children, and dogs.

Travel Itinerary: Two Weeks In Northern Spain

Aside from getting yourself a good paper map of the region, my most important piece of advice for road tripping through Northern Spain is; stay off the toll roads! Each time we took the smaller road on the map we encountered the most intriguing sites and made the most triumphant discoveries. Trip Video: Alaska's Turnagain Arm

When I travel for my less than creative day job, I make it a point to spend at least a little bit of time while off the clock creating. Last week, I was traveling solo in Alaska and had about 6 hours to spare, so I made an attempt at filming my next trip video. If nothing else, I figured it would be good practice - even if I didn't get enough footage to put together a video. With a combination of brand new editing software and some seriously serendipitous timing - I've ended up with some of my favorite shots I've ever taken.

Trip Video: Long Beach Peninsula

Weekend getaways combined with filming a trip video may be my new favorite way to spend a weekend. Even though a long drive can be rough after working all day on Friday - it's wondrous to wake up somewhere new and have an entire day to explore and create. Just a few weeks ago, we woke up in Long Beach, Washington with a full day to spend exploring the Peninsula. There was only one "problem," it was a rather stormy day.

Glad I Hiked It: The Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi'ai Beach

I can't even begin to imagine how many blog posts have been written about hiking the Kalalau Trail. In fact, when I was querying the web for tips on hiking in Kauai, all links seemed to lead back to this trail. Clearly, it's considered "the" hike to take on Kauai's Garden Isle. No doubt, the hike has it's fair share of attributes; filled with beautiful views, lush plant life, and isn't too challenging at just four miles round trip.
